US Sanctions Human Rights Violators from Iran, Uganda, and Syria Ahead of Democracy Summit
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States has listed 15 individuals from three countries as targets for sanctions for human rights violations against political opponents or peaceful protesters ahead of the Summit for Democracy.
On the 7th (local time), the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has decided to freeze assets within the U.S. of 15 individuals from Iran, Uganda, and Syria.
The Treasury explained that this action is part of a whole-of-government effort to promote democracy and to hold accountable those who undermine trust in democratic institutions.
