At the Asia-Pacific Pharmacology Federation Board meeting held on the 27th of last month, Daegu succeeded in attracting the conference, beating Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which was a strong candidate.
The Asia-Pacific Pharmacology Conference is a large-scale international academic conference held every four years, attended by about 1,000 stakeholders from 26 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including pharmacology experts, research institutes, and pharmaceutical companies researching basic medicine, clinical pharmacology, toxicology, and physiology. In Korea, the Korean Society of Pharmacology is registered as a member of the participating countries.
The Korean Society of Pharmacology's hosting committee has expressed its intention to host the conference to the Asia-Pacific Pharmacology Federation International Headquarters since 2017, together with Daegu City and the Daegu Convention Bureau.
The city emphasized that it can showcase advanced research facilities such as new drug development by leveraging the abundant medical infrastructure of the advanced medical complex.
It also received favorable evaluations by promoting the state-of-the-art online and offline conference facilities quickly established during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Daegu Convention Bureau captivated the board's attention by vividly presenting international conference infrastructure and UNESCO tourist attractions through presentation videos using its virtual studio.
With Daegu selected as the host city for this conference, it has succeeded in attracting most major international events in the field of basic medicine, including the 2018 World Congress of Parasitology, the 2019 World Congress of Neuroscience, and the 2023 Asia-Oceania Physiology Conference.
