The award ceremony for the ‘6th Korea Crime Prevention Awards’ held on the 3rd was jointly hosted by the National Police Agency and JoongAng Ilbo.
The awards were given to public institutions, social organizations, and companies that have achieved results in crime prevention to build safe communities free from crime.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology was selected as a recipient for carrying out the ‘Crime-Free Campus, Safe Dormitory Creation’ project.
The university has promoted crime prevention activities in three areas: ‘crime prevention education, crime prevention environment creation, and crime prevention participation activities’ in collaboration with Busan Bukbu Police Station and Buk-gu Office of Busan, focusing on off-campus dormitories.
To strengthen campus safety and crime prevention around off-campus one-room apartments and residential areas, existing CCTVs were replaced with high-definition security cameras, and about 100 additional cameras were installed focusing on crime-prone areas.
The university installed security bars and screens on windows vulnerable to external intrusion around the off-campus female dormitory, installed security doors on the rear sides of buildings, and blocked access to easily accessible stairways.
In connection with the CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) project conducted by Buk-gu Office of Busan, maintenance of emergency safety bells and streetlight improvement projects for nighttime crime prevention are underway.
In cooperation with Busan Bukbu Police Station and Buk-gu Office of Busan, unmanned safe parcel lockers for women were installed on campus, 28 safety mirror sheets were attached to female dormitory entrances, and special fluorescent materials were applied to off-campus residential dormitories to prevent break-ins and theft.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology received certification for excellent crime prevention facilities in 2019.
Busan Institute of Science and Technology operates the With Pol multicultural guardians, consisting of international students and marriage immigrant women in Buk-gu, along with the Toktok Patrol Unit and Drone SKY Patrol Unit, composed of students from the Bukbu Police Station, Police Security Division, and Drone Spatial Information Department.
