View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The kt Group Hope Sharing Foundation announced on the 6th that it selected five individuals who contributed to creating a sustainable society through sharing activities this year as ‘Hope Sharing Persons’ and awarded them the ‘KT Hope Sharing Person Award.’
The KT Hope Sharing Person Award accepted candidate nominations through its website from July 21 to October 30. A total of five individuals (one representative per organization) were selected through evaluation and interviews based on ▲social contribution ▲the value and importance of the role contributed ▲and sustainability.
The first KT Hope Sharing Person Award went to Gangdong Night School, an educational school that provides free instruction for elementary, middle, and high school courses to seniors who missed educational opportunities. Since its opening in 1989, Gangdong Night School has been operated through meaningful sponsorships and voluntary free service by teachers, with 20 to 25 teachers active each year. About 40 students receive education aiming to pass the high school equivalency exam, with over 95% aged between 50 and 70. So far, it has produced about 300 high school equivalency exam passers, with 5 to 6 passing each year.
Teachers at Gangdong Night School said, “Although funding has decreased due to COVID-19, resulting in financial shortages, we will continue the night school as long as even one student remains. We are grateful to receive the ‘KT Hope Sharing Person Award,’ which will allow us to operate the night school with pride.”
In addition to Gangdong Night School, the kt Group Hope Sharing Foundation awarded the ‘KT Hope Sharing Person Award’ to Kim Yoon-kyung (47) of ‘Haetteuneun Restaurant,’ which provides meals for 1,000 won to neighbors in need; Hong Yoon-hee (46) of the cooperative ‘Mooe,’ which produces maps for the mobility convenience of people with disabilities; Kang Sang-gu (53), who has distributed free glasses to seniors for 17 years; and Kim Sung-tae (44), a teacher at Gwangyang High-tech High School who formed a volunteer group with youth to solve community problems.
