Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Appoints Jo Hye-young as Vice President
57th Anniversary: First Internal Appointment as Deputy Director
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (Chairman Kim Jeong-hwan) announced on the 6th that Jo Hye-young, former Head of the Industrial Complex Promotion Headquarters (Executive Director) of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, has been appointed as Vice Chairman. This is the first time that an internal personnel has been appointed as a deputy head in the Industrial Complex Corporation, which originated from the Korea Export Industrial Complex Corporation established in 1964 for the creation and management of the Korea Export Industrial Complex.
Newly appointed Vice Chairman Jo Hye-young graduated from the Department of Geography at Seoul National University and received a Ph.D. in Economic Geography from the same university's graduate school. Since joining the corporation in 1997, she has served as Head of the Location Research Team (Grade 2) and Director of the Industrial Location Research Institute (Grade 1), making her an expert in industrial location policy research. In 2018, she was appointed as the corporation's first female executive (Executive Director) and served as Head of the Corporate Support Headquarters until last year, laying the foundation for the continuous promotion of projects to strengthen the competitiveness of industrial clusters and actively supporting tenant companies in overcoming COVID-19.
Subsequently, as Head of the Industrial Complex Promotion Headquarters, she successfully led government national tasks and industrial complex innovation projects, including the Smart Green Industrial Complex Promotion Project, a flagship project of the Korean New Deal.
During the Vice Chairman appointment process conducted through an external recruitment, the Industrial Complex Corporation judged Vice Chairman Jo to be the right person to lead communication and innovation within the organization based on her expertise, work execution ability, high understanding of the corporation, and rational character. The Industrial Complex Corporation plans to use the appointment of the first internal employee as Vice Chairman as an opportunity to motivate the organization, consolidate capabilities, and accelerate the establishment of a horizontal organizational culture based on active communication and ethical management.
