South Korea Strengthens Digital Government Cooperation with Malaysia... Establishing a Foundation for New Southern Policy Expansion
Online Seminar on Digital Government Collaboration Held on the 7th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is strengthening digital government cooperation with Malaysia to establish a foundation for the expansion of South Korea's digital government into the New Southern region.
On the 6th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it will hold a seminar for 'Korea-Malaysia Digital Government Cooperation' via a non-face-to-face video conference at 3 p.m. (Korean time) on the 7th, together with Malaysia's Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU).
Malaysia is a country with high interest in digital government, ranking 29th in the Online Service Index and 47th in the E-Government Development Index among 193 countries in last year's 'UN E-Government Survey' conducted every two years, achieving the second highest rank among ASEAN countries after Singapore.
Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, about 20 officials and experts from digital government-related departments, including Malaysia's Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit, will participate in this online seminar held non-face-to-face.
Meanwhile, Malaysia has introduced approximately $20 million worth of Korean-style public sector information systems, such as postal logistics systems, public transportation systems, and electronic trade systems, over eight years from 2013 to 2020. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to continue promoting cooperation with New Southern countries to spread South Korea's globally recognized digital government.
