Ministry of the Interior and Safety Launches 'Joint Support Situation Room for Fair Presidential Election'
Managing Legal Election Office Progress... Responsible for Cooperation with Related Organizations
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 6th that it has opened the 'Joint Support Situation Room for Fair Elections' in preparation for the 20th presidential election to be held on March 9 next year.
The situation room will manage the progress of statutory election affairs such as the preparation of voter lists by local governments and handle cooperation tasks with related organizations including the National Election Commission, police, and quarantine authorities.
From its launch, it will monitor major election trends and the status of incidents and accidents, and work with related organizations to promptly respond to ensure fair elections. It will also track the progress of statutory election affairs by the National Election Commission, overseas diplomatic missions, and local governments according to the election schedule, conduct on-site inspections, and provide support for facilities, personnel, and equipment.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to form inspection teams jointly with cities and provinces to strengthen inspection activities step-by-step according to the election schedule to ensure local government officials comply with their duty of election neutrality.
Additionally, the ministry has established and operates an 'Anonymous Reporting Channel for Public Election Corruption' on its website, and plans to take strict measures if reports are confirmed to involve local government officials' election-related misconduct.

Please ensure thorough and safe situation management by establishing a cooperative system with related organizations such as the National Election Commission, the National Police Agency, and quarantine authorities to promptly respond to violations of election neutrality and incidents or accidents.”
