Haenam-gun Delivers Kimchi for Kimjang to Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 2nd, Myeong Hyeon-gwan, the governor of Haenam County, Jeollanam-do, met with Mayor Choi Dae-ho at Anyang City Hall to hold a sharing event of kimchi, delivering 341 boxes (3410 kg) of Haenam kimchi.

This Haenam kimchi sharing event was organized to promote the excellence of Haenam napa cabbage in the full kimchi-making season and to expedite the phased recovery of daily life. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event was held simply with only key officials attending.

The budget for the salted napa cabbage and seasoning ingredients used to make the kimchi was equally shared by Haenam County and Anyang City, each covering 50%. Volunteers from the Anyang Volunteer Center and women's groups participated in making the kimchi through volunteer work.

Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan said, “We delivered kimchi made with healthy Haenam napa cabbage to boost immunity this winter and to give strength to overcome COVID-19.”

The event was attended by officials from Haenam County and Anyang City, as well as National Assembly members Min Byung-duk (Anyang Dongan-gu Gap), Kang Deuk-gu (Anyang Manan-gu), Lee Jae-jung (Anyang Dongan-gu Eul), and Park Gwi-jong, president of the Honam Hometown Association.

Anyang City’s Mayor Choi Dae-ho and National Assembly member Min Byung-duk are both from Haenam, and through active activities of the Honam and Haenam hometown associations, a city-level campaign to purchase Haenam agricultural and marine products has arisen, maintaining a close cooperative relationship between Haenam and Anyang.

Mayor Choi Dae-ho of Anyang said, “The kimchi from the clean region of Ttangkkeut Haenam has delivered health and warm affection to our citizens. In Anyang City, with a population of 550,000, we will take the lead in expanding the market for Haenam agricultural and marine products as well as promoting mutual exchanges in culture and tourism to achieve joint rural-urban development.”
