The Korean War broke out on the early morning of June 25, 1950, when North Korean communist forces invaded the South, resulting in numerous casualties and war orphans.
The late Sergeant Ok Taehwan, the medal recipient, was recognized for his service in the war and was awarded the 'Chungmu Military Merit Medal' and the 'Hwarang Military Merit Medal.'
Ok Sergeant's nephew, Ok Gangryul, said, "I am glad that my uncle finally received the medal. Although my uncle died in the war, his military merit medals will be carefully preserved by future generations as a valuable example."
