The Financial Big Data Festival, a representative social contribution program of Mirae Asset, selects topics that can provide practical help for customers' investment decisions, offering participating students the opportunity to experience real-world analysis processes and engage in in-depth consideration of financial data.
Now in its fifth edition, this event is the largest in the financial investment industry, with a grand prize of 20 million KRW and total prize money exceeding 50 million KRW. Various benefits such as internships and exemption from document screening during recruitment are provided according to the award categories.
This year, through joint hosting with Mirae Asset Life Insurance and Mirae Asset Global Investments, diverse financial sector analysis tasks were presented. By providing de-identified customer data through specialized data institutions, participants were supported in analyzing actual customer investment statuses and deriving scientific ideas.
A total of 1,130 students participated in the 2021 Financial Big Data Festival. The participation themes were selected as Mirae Asset Securities' 'Next M Club (m.Club) I Create,' Mirae Asset Life Insurance's 'Visualization Based on Variable Fund Keywords,' and Mirae Asset Global Investments' 'Investment Strategy Development Using TIGER Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF).'
The final event and awards ceremony were streamed live on YouTube, allowing participating students to watch the festival in real time. Teams advancing to the finals received mentoring from data scientists of Mirae Asset group companies and were judged by current experts including Professor Park Byungwook of Seoul National University’s Department of Statistics and Professor Kim Donggyu of KAIST’s Department of Management Engineering.
The grand prize was awarded to the Mirae Sonyeo team, who received 20 million KRW. The winning team submitted an entry titled 'Visualization of Variable Funds Using Core Keywords and Personalized Fund Recommendations.' The Mirae Sonyeo team earned high marks for applying natural language analysis techniques to financial product data provided by Mirae Asset Life Insurance and visualizing fund information in a way that is easy for customers to understand in a digital environment.
