View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Consuming frozen dumplings as a snack can result in intake levels of fat, saturated fat, and sodium similar to those of a full meal, indicating the need for caution.
On the 2nd, the Korea Consumer Agency announced the results of tests and evaluations on quality, safety, and labeling compliance conducted on 16 products, including 8 types of meat dumplings and 8 types of kimchi dumplings.
When considering a single serving size of 150g for frozen dumplings as a snack, the fat and saturated fat contents were highest in Emart's 'No Brand Jeongtong Wang Gyoja' at 21g and 7g respectively. The sodium content was highest in Pulmuone Food's 'Thin Skin Fully Stuffed Kimchi Dumplings' at 701mg. Accordingly, consuming 4.1 pieces (150g) of No Brand Jeongtong Wang Gyoja corresponds to intake levels of 39% of the daily nutritional standard for fat and 47% for saturated fat. Eating 3.8 pieces (150g) of Thin Skin Fully Stuffed Kimchi Dumplings results in about 35% of the daily sodium standard.
Six products showed discrepancies between the labeled nutritional values and actual measured values that exceeded the allowable margin of error, indicating a need for improvement. Haitai Confectionery & Foods' 'Gohyang Mandu' was labeled as containing 6g of sugars but was found to contain 8g. Ottogi's 'Delicious Gyoza Dumplings' was labeled as having 4.9g of saturated fat but actually contained 9.9g, and the same company's 'Old-fashioned Kimchi Hand Dumplings' was labeled as containing 34g of protein but actually contained only 19g.

The Consumer Agency reported these products to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and recommended voluntary improvements to the related companies. Additionally, there were differences among products in dumpling skin thickness, filling ratio, and weight, but all products were found to have no safety issues. The test and evaluation results can be found in the 'General Comparison Information' section on the 'Consumer24' website.
