Gangwon Provincial Agricultural Seed Center Develops Nation's First 'Automated Insect Rearing Process' [Gangwon Province]
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] The Head of the Gangwon Province Agricultural Products Seed Center announced on the 1st that "following the nationwide first development of an insect smart farm ICT active environmental control system, we have completed the development of an automated insect breeding process and installed it in a specialized insect industrial support facility."
According to the Head of the Agricultural Products Seed Center, as demand for insects as alternative protein and advanced industrial materials has increased recently, they promoted and developed an R&D project for automated insect breeding processes to support this demand.
The Sericulture and Insect Team has been conducting projects such as 'Development of On-site Breeding Technology Using Advanced Insect Industry Technology' and 'Development of Insect Smart Farm' promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and has obtained four related patents including ICT wireless environmental information sensors and smart insect breeding platforms.
Additionally, they are conducting research on a standardized model for mass breeding processes of industrial insects and a cloud distribution platform model for insect products in collaboration with the Rural Development Administration.

Seok Youngsik, Head of the Sericulture and Insect Team, stated, "Simulation of automated insect breeding process operation has shown effects in reducing labor and production costs, which will help sericulture insect farms and companies in the province develop health functional foods and medical foods using insects," adding, "Next year, we plan to develop and distribute standard feed for automated insect breeding processes."
