The Geochang-gun World Elevator Hub City Development Project was selected as a pilot project for the Regional Development Investment Agreement by the National Balanced Development Committee in 2019. With a total project cost of 24.1 billion KRW including 12.1 billion KRW of national and provincial subsidies, it aims to solve the biggest difficulty of elevator companies?labor shortage?and support research and development (R&D) by constructing an elevator industrial complex building and an R&D testing center.
The county presented the case titled ‘Solving Corporate Difficulties through the World Elevator Hub City Development Project,’ receiving high evaluations for attracting companies and creating jobs, corporate-centered communication administration, and collaborative support with related elevator organizations.
The industrial complex building is a three-story, hands-on elevator specialized training center designed to cultivate technical personnel for elevator installation, manufacturing, and maintenance, and to establish an elevator industry cluster. It includes a practice building and an education center, as well as a large conference room for over 400 people, enabling the hosting of large-scale events in the future.
Additionally, an R&D support center was established where small and medium enterprises can rent various R&D and testing equipment. Once the complex building is completed, the Elevator Talent Development Institute based in Seoul will relocate to Geochang to exclusively operate the training center, producing about 1,000 elevator engineers annually.
Moreover, a permanent elevator training center for legally mandated elevator education has been attracted and is operating in Geochang, and the nation’s first elevator-specialized high school, Geochang Elevator High School, has been opened.
