aT announced that it held the 54th anniversary ceremony on the 1st at its headquarters in Naju, broadcasted live online.
Since its establishment in 1967 as the 'Rural Development Corporation,' it has continuously carried out major projects such as stabilizing the supply and demand of agricultural and fishery products, improving distribution, promoting exports, and fostering the food industry. Through these efforts, it strives to increase the income of farmers and fishermen and promote balanced development of the national economy.
President Kim Chunjin emphasized in his commemorative speech, "The corporation has faithfully fulfilled the tasks demanded by the times for over half a century," adding, "As public expectations and demands for public institutions are increasing, continuous change and innovation are necessary." He encouraged the executives and employees by saying, "Let us lead the development of our agro-fisheries and food industry."
This year, the corporation set a new vision: 'A corporation that enhances the happiness of the people by realizing a strong agro-fisheries and food industry.' Despite the global logistics crisis caused by COVID-19, Korea's agro-fisheries and food exports achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 10 billion dollars (approximately 11.789 trillion won) for the first time.
The public meal electronic procurement system (eaT), used by over 80% of elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide, has expanded its scope beyond schools to include kindergartens, welfare facilities, and military meal pilot projects, establishing itself as a representative model of digital distribution. To strengthen food security, President Kim has been actively engaging with government officials including the Prime Minister, ministers, academia, and related organizations to discover new projects and expand the corporation's presence, such as the installation of a 'Comprehensive Food and Grain Complex.'
Furthermore, after declaring ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in April together with 169 agro-fisheries and food partner companies, aT has been leading ESG value management by establishing ESG management strategies, creating an ESG expert committee within the board of directors, operating a dedicated ESG management department, and a CEO advisory committee. As a public institution responsible for the nation's food, aT focuses on practicing ESG management by reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire food 'production-distribution-consumption' process and concentrating efforts on spreading the low-carbon dietary campaign 'Korea Green Food Day' to achieve carbon neutrality.
