Various events including photo zones, wish postcard floating, and goods provided with Zero Pay payment
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The fairy tale story that a rabbit pounds rice cakes on the far side of the moon, heard in childhood, unfolds at Gyeongui Line Book Street.
Walking between light sculptures shaped like stars and the moon, visitors can experience the unique feeling of reading books in space.
Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that from December 17 to February 20 next year, the ‘Winter Light Festival’ will be held around Gyeongui Line Book Street (in front of Exit 6 of Hongik University Station).
This year’s ‘Winter Light Festival’ uses space and nature as motifs, expressing the hopes and wishes of people welcoming a new era after With-Corona through the theme ‘Reading Books on the Moon, Welcoming a New World’ with the moon, rabbit, and stars.
The festival operates from 5:30 PM to 11 PM. Illuminations shaped like stars in the night sky replace the stars that are hard to see in the city at Book Street.
In the outdoor plaza, a large moon tree with a rabbit pounding rice cakes is installed, and on the roofs of nine ‘Walk Booths’ (bookstores) and the old Gyeongui Line train station recreated as ‘Waugyo Book Street Station’ with books, moon sculptures are set up to provide a space for contemplation while walking under the moonlight.
◇Media Exhibition ‘Warm and Emotional Creative Media Art’
At the entrance of Book Street, the Media Book Wall features works such as ▲‘Slow Sloth Neul’ by cultural content creation studio Seven Sloths ▲‘Are You Doing Well?’ and ‘If I Wait at the Station, I Think of You’ by illustrator Lumi ▲and the picture book ‘Love You No Matter What’ by Yeowon Media, which are broadcast from 5:30 PM to welcome visitors to the ‘Winter Light Festival’.
◇Gyeongui Line Book Street: 5-Year Record Exhibition
Marking its 5th anniversary this year, Gyeongui Line Book Street will publish a 5th anniversary white paper reviewing its activities so far.
The exhibition displays infographics and photos showcasing 899 book culture programs held over 1,560 days of operation, and the activities of over 1,000 participating writers and artists at a glance.
This record exhibition runs from December 1 to February 13 next year. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, viewing is limited to up to five people per hour via ‘Naver Reservation’.
◇Winter Night, Safely Enjoy the Winter Light Festival with Loved Ones
At the Winter Light Festival, there is a ‘Photo Zone’ where visitors can take their own moon photos and upload them to social networks (SNS), and a ‘Book Moon Wish Floating’ event where visitors write wish messages on postcards and hang them on the moon tree.
Also, nine Walk Booths (bookstores) operated by independent publishers in seven fields such as travel, literature, and art conduct book curation by selecting specific themes for each bookstore. Curated books can also be checked on the Gyeongui Line Book Street SNS.
When purchasing books at the Walk Booths using Zero Pay, ‘Gyeongui Line Book Street goods’ such as eco bags and pens are provided according to the payment amount.
To prevent COVID-19 infection and ensure safe event operation, gatherings of more than five people at one place are restricted, and visitors who pass temperature checks and QR check-ins receive a ‘Safety Wristband’.
