Groundbreaking Ceremony for Jeonju Pyeonghwa Hydrogen Refueling Station
Expected Role as a Forward Base for the Spread of Eco-Friendly Hydrogen Vehicles
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] A hydrogen refueling station responsible for the supply and expansion of hydrogen, which is gaining attention as an eco-friendly energy source, will be additionally established in Pyeonghwa-dong, Jeonju.
On the 30th, Jeonju City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Jeonju Pyeonghwa Hydrogen Refueling Station' at the site of Jeil and Seongjin Passenger Garage in Pyeonghwa-dong, Wansan-gu (Pyeonghwa-dong 265-2), attended by Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su, officials from KoHyGen Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the construction and operation of refueling stations, and key stakeholders from Hyundai Motor Company and Korea District Heating Corporation, among others.
The Jeonju Pyeonghwa Hydrogen Refueling Station was initiated after KoHyGen Co., Ltd., a company specializing in hydrogen infrastructure construction and operation, was selected in April for a public project hosted by the Korea Automobile Environmental Association, an entrusted agency of the Ministry of Environment for the hydrogen refueling station private subsidy project.
A total of 8.06 billion KRW, including 4.2 billion KRW in national funds, is expected to be invested by July next year.
In particular, the Pyeonghwa station will be a large-capacity refueling station capable of refueling more than 300 kg per hour, expected to serve as a forward base for the distribution of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles such as hydrogen city buses.
Jeonju City is building three hydrogen refueling stations?Samcheon, Pyeonghwa, and Sangnim?starting with the completion of the Jeonju Songcheon Station last year, in line with the government's hydrogen infrastructure expansion plans such as the 'Hydrogen Economy Activation Roadmap.'
Additionally, through future public offerings, the city plans to establish a fifth new refueling station, aiming to build a total of five hydrogen refueling stations by 2022.
Along with this, Jeonju City has been actively promoting hydrogen infrastructure by distributing a total of 580 hydrogen vehicles, including 15 hydrogen city buses, to date.
Jeonju City plans to distribute 2,000 hydrogen vehicles by 2025 and build eight hydrogen refueling stations to support this, while also expanding residential and transportation infrastructure using hydrogen and establishing a hydrogen safety management system through the hydrogen pilot city project, aiming to become a leading hydrogen city driving South Korea's hydrogen economy.
Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su emphasized, "Hydrogen refueling stations are the most important infrastructure for the transition to eco-friendly energy and carbon neutrality policies," adding, "We will strive to lead South Korea's hydrogen economy by establishing core hydrogen-related technologies and infrastructure and realize carbon neutrality by 2050."
