'Shincheonji Suspicion' 30s Democratic Party Gwangju Joint Election Committee Co-Chair Voluntarily Resigns
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] One of the co-chairs of the Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, who positioned the 2030 generation at the forefront and focused on youth, voluntarily resigned amid allegations of ‘Shincheonji involvement’.
According to the Democratic Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party on the 26th, composer Lee Mo, who served as co-chair on that day, expressed his intention to resign, and the city party accepted it.
The city party highly evaluated Lee’s work of capturing Gwangju’s hidden history and culture, such as Yangnim Street, on musical staff, and his active activities as a cultural and artistic policy maker. The city party judged that it would be unfair for him to be deprived of the opportunity due to past actions, so the city party first proposed recruitment, and Lee is also known to have accepted it.
However, when the election committee list was announced the day before, numerous reports emerged that Lee had been active in Shincheonji for a long time in the past.
With the situation as it was, Lee decided to resign, stating that he would not cause any harm to the launch of the election committee regarding the issues related to himself, and the city party also accepted this.
Meanwhile, the first regional election committee centered on youth for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, will be launched in Gwangju on the 28th.
The Gwangju election committee positioned 2030 youth at the forefront as co-chairs in line with the candidate’s intention to reform the central election committee. Not only the co-chairs but also Kang Suhoon, head of the Gwangju City Party’s presidential pledge planning office, was appointed as the standing head of the election headquarters, who will practically lead the election, and many youths were positioned in key roles such as the spokesperson group. Six members of the National Assembly from the Gwangju region, except for Song Gap-seok, chairman of the Gwangju City Party, will support the young election committee by taking responsibility for regional activities as standing advisors of the election committee.
