[Asia Economy Reporter Yoonju Hwang] LG Energy Solution is expanding its battery business and next-generation battery research and development (R&D) organization. A Management Support Center has been newly established to support the battery business, positioned directly under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with President Bangsoo Lee appointed as the head of the center. President Lee will also serve as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). Additionally, the status of the Battery Research Institute has been elevated, and a new organization for next-generation battery development has been created.
On the 25th, LG Energy Solution announced a total of 15 executive promotions for 2022 through a board resolution, including ▲1 promotion to Executive Director ▲12 new appointments to Managing Director ▲1 new appointment to Senior Research Fellow (Managing Director) ▲1 new appointment to Senior Specialist (Managing Director).
LG Energy Solution explained that the key feature of this personnel reshuffle is the selection of talent in quality, development, and production to fundamentally improve the structure and strengthen core competencies based on thorough business performance. It also emphasized that the focus was on strengthening organizational capabilities from a proactive perspective to prepare for the future.
To this end, the Management Support Center was newly established to support the battery business and strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. It is an organization directly under the CEO, with President Bangsoo Lee serving as the head of the center. President Lee will also act as the CRO, serving as the control tower in case of risks such as battery fires.

Battery research and development (R&D) capabilities will also be enhanced. The Battery Research Institute has been elevated to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Under the Battery Research Institute, a center-level organization responsible for next-generation battery development has also been newly established. Youngjun Shin, Executive Director and head of the ESS Business Division, has been appointed as the CTO of the Battery Research Institute and will also serve as the head of the Next-Generation Battery Development Center. Executive Director Sewon Noh, who was promoted this time, will serve as the head of the Small Battery Development Center.
