Shin Yong-byeong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, is attending the inaugural meeting of the Leadership Council, an official partnership organization of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), on the afternoon of the 24th.

The Leadership Council is the highest authority committee of UNEP FI, newly established after the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties to enable global finance to take more active responsibility and roles regarding environmental issues. On the 18th, Chairman Jo was selected as the only member from Asia.
The first council meeting began with a welcome speech by UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen and a keynote address by UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres, followed by discussions among chairpersons of global leading financial groups on climate change response and sustainability across the financial industry.

At the meeting, Chairman Jo stated, "We will strive to spread sustainable finance through UNEP FI council activities," adding, "Next year, Shinhan will focus on carbon transition finance as the core keyword toward carbon neutrality, and actively support the establishment of eco-friendly infrastructure and technology investment targeting domestic high carbon-emission companies."
