Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Human Rights Respect and Accident Prevention Activities for Foreign Maritime Workers
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Maritime Police Station (Chief Hwang Junhyun) is promoting various activities to respect the human rights of foreign maritime workers and to prevent incidents and accidents as part of proactive administration.
According to Seogwipo Maritime Police Station on the 25th, this accident prevention activity has been carried out in cooperation with local related organizations (Seongsan-eup Office, Seongsanpo Fisheries Cooperative, Seongsan Korean Seafarers Welfare Center, Seongsanpo Fishing Vessel Owners Association) since July at Seongsan Police Substation.

Also, as part of respecting human rights, from the 25th to the 27th of last month, an Indonesian language instructor from the Korean Seafarers Welfare Center was invited to provide foreign culture and basic conversation education to police substation staff for three days.
Based on the learned content, communication opportunities with foreign crew members have been created, and education on social issues such as COVID-19 prevention guidelines is being continuously promoted.
A Seogwipo Maritime Police official said, “To prevent social problems of foreign maritime workers, we plan to regularly provide education and communication opportunities and continue cooperation with related organizations to create a safe maritime working environment.”
