[Seoul Mobility Show] BMW Korea Unveils iX, i4, iX3, Mini Electric and More for the First Time
'Mini Strip' Collaborates with Designer Paul Smith, First Unveiling in Asia
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] BMW Group Korea announced on the 25th that it will exhibit a total of 17 models, including the concept model Mini Strip, BMW iX, and New Mini Electric, at the '2021 Seoul Mobility Show' held at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
At this exhibition, BMW Korea showcased electrified models across all brands including BMW, Mini, and BMW Motorrad, presenting BMW's direction related to future mobility. BMW introduced a total of eight models, ranging from pure electric models such as the iX, i4, and New iX3, to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and high-performance vehicles.
Mini unveiled the concept model 'Mini Strip,' created in collaboration with the famous British fashion designer Paul Smith, for the first time in Asia, and also introduced the brand's first pure electric model, the New Mini Electric, to the domestic market for the first time. In addition, six models including hatchbacks, convertibles, and high-performance JCW lineup models were exhibited.
At the exhibition, BMW revealed the pure electric models iX, i4, and iX3 to the Korean market for the first time. The iX is BMW Group's new technology flagship model. Designed from the interior outward, it features a spacious interior. The dashboard is equipped with a BMW curved display consisting of a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch control display, and the driver's seat features BMW's first hexagonal steering wheel.
The iX xDrive50 delivers a combined maximum output of 523 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the iX xDrive40, with 326 horsepower, accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The driving range per charge is 447 km combined for the iX xDrive50 and 313 km combined for the iX xDrive40.
Also unveiled domestically for the first time on the same day, the i4 is BMW's first pure electric model launched in the premium mid-size segment. Especially, the BMW i4 M50 showcased at the Seoul Mobility Show is BMW's first pure electric M model, featuring a 5th generation drivetrain with a maximum charging capacity of 205 kW and regenerative braking performance of 195 kW to maximize efficiency. It is equipped with a 258-horsepower motor on the front axle and a 313-horsepower motor on the rear axle, delivering a maximum output of 544 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The driving range per charge is 429 km for the i4 eDrive and 378 km for the M50.
The iX3 is a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) model equipped with a motor producing 286 horsepower, accelerating to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its driving range per charge is 344 km. Additionally, BMW brand exhibited models such as the New X4, New 4 Series Gran Coupe, New M3 Competition Sedan, and BMW 745Le.
For the Mini brand, the concept car Mini Strip, created in collaboration with designer Paul Smith, was unveiled for the first time in Asia. The Mini Strip is characterized by its use of only recycled or future recyclable materials under the themes of 'simplicity, transparency, and sustainability.' Also, the New Mini Electric, Mini's first pure electric model, was revealed domestically for the first time.
