[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] On the 24th, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do held an opening ceremony for the ‘Wando Smart Healing Village’ attended by about 70 people including County Governor Shin Woo-cheol, County Council Chairman Heo Gung-hee, heads of institutions and social organizations in Gunoe-myeon, and local residents.

According to the county on the 25th, the Smart Healing Village was created in Bulmok-ri, Gunoe-myeon, with an investment of 2 billion KRW after Wando-gun was selected as the first nationwide winner of the ‘Smart Healing Village’ project in the 2019 Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest.

The Smart Healing Village consists of the Smart Healing Center (1st floor above ground, total area 519㎡), a leisure, culture, and community life service infrastructure utilizing advanced information and communication technology (ICT), and two healing houses as accommodation facilities for stay-type tourism.

The Smart Healing Center provides health services to check health status, a VR experience space to virtually explore major tourist sites in Wando, an AI robot barista, a dry maekbansuk spa, a multipurpose room, and specialty product sales facilities.

In particular, since early this year, an emergency safety and security service that automatically reports emergencies based on advanced ICT and an AI companion service have been provided to elderly living alone near the Smart Healing Village, receiving positive responses.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “The Smart Healing Village, which integrates cutting-edge ICT and healing, is expected to become a new model for regional development by contributing to improving residents’ quality of life through the establishment of a health management system, generating income, and revitalizing tourism.”
