Active in Talent Recruitment... Focus on Whether It Aligns with the 'Change' and 'Innovation' Desired by the People
[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Jeon Jin-young] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 24th regarding the decision by key political officeholders of the Democratic Party to collectively resign in order to reform the election campaign committee, "I did not request it," but added, "I am grateful for the courageous decision to put everything aside for the victory in the presidential election."
On the same day, Lee made these remarks during a Q&A session with reporters at the central party office in Yeouido: "I had heard vaguely about such a movement regarding the positions of key party officials, but I honestly did not expect them to make such a decisive move." He stated that future appointments following the reorganization of the campaign committee will be decided in consultation with the party leader.
Lee said, "To meet the expectations of the public and party members for 'change' and 'innovation,' the composition of the campaign committee and appointments to party positions will be well arranged in consultation with the party leader."
He explained, "According to the party's constitution and regulations, appointments to the campaign committee are to be made by the party leader in consultation with the candidate, so subsequent appointments will be decided after I provide my opinions to the party leader." He added, "Although party positions are not officially directly related to the campaign committee legally, they cannot be considered unrelated either, so I will provide my opinions to the party leader and coordinate accordingly."
However, considering that next year's budget review is underway, it appears that the reorganization plan will be adjusted within a reasonable scope.
When asked whether replacing the chairperson and senior vice chairperson of the Policy Committee would cause problems with the budget review, Lee responded, "Since the resignations have not been processed yet and only the intention to resign has been expressed, the party leader has the authority to decide who will be replaced or retained, taking into account the handling of tasks during the regular National Assembly session."
He added, "The campaign committee positions have been fully delegated to me, so I plan to reorganize as necessary and to the extent needed." He continued, "It will not all be concluded at once but will be handled sequentially, starting with the urgent matters." He also said, "Regarding party positions, it is necessary to ensure that there is no confusion in party affairs or adverse effects on the election, and that the influence is positive."
Lee also expressed his intention to actively recruit talent during the campaign committee appointment process.

He said, "An always important task for the campaign committee is to expand its scope by recruiting external personnel, which is very important," adding, "If possible, we need to find and place talent within our party, and we are also receiving recommendations for external personnel. It would be good if the public could also make recommendations." In particular, he emphasized that appointments will focus on aspects that align with the public's desire for change and innovation. He stressed, "I believe we need people who can embrace the expectations and aspirations of the public."
