Kakao Recognized as an Electronic Signature Certification Provider
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kakao announced on the 23rd that it has been recognized as an electronic signature certification operator by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency.
The electronic signature certification evaluation and recognition system was introduced to ensure the reliability and safety of electronic signature certification methods following the abolition of the certified electronic signature certification system in December last year. Kakao passed 70 evaluation criteria that operators must comply with, including physical, managerial, and technical security, as well as personal information protection, to protect subscribers and users of electronic signature certification services.
With this recognition as an electronic signature certification operator, Kakao plans to expand the use of the Kakao Certificate, which has 8 million users, including integrated authentication projects for MyData in the financial sector.
Currently, the Kakao Certificate can be used for various public services such as the National Tax Service Hometax and Wetax, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Government 24, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s People’s Petition, the Korea Customs Service’s personal customs unique code inquiry, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Bokjiro. It is also utilized for same-day reservations of leftover COVID-19 vaccines and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s COVID-19 vaccination pre-registration system.
The strength of the Kakao Certificate lies in its easy issuance process and simple usability. KakaoTalk users can obtain the certificate by agreeing to terms and verifying their identity without the need for membership registration or installing a separate app.
