Na Kyung-won and Kim Tae-ho: "If there is a position within the campaign committee, we will yield... hope it is used for personnel recruitment"
Kim Tae-ho: "Jungjin Members Each Play a Role in Cultivating Their Respective Regional Support Bases"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Among senior opposition party lawmakers, including former People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Na Kyung-won (four-term) and PPP lawmaker Kim Tae-ho (three-term), declarations of 'serving in white armor'?meaning voluntarily stepping aside from positions in the election campaign committee?are continuing.
On the 22nd, former lawmaker Na stated on her Facebook, "I want to become a grain of sand for the victory of our candidate and party," adding, "I don't know if there is a place for me in the campaign committee, but in that sense, I want to offer even my small position."
She continued, "I hope that position will be used to recruit personnel who can expand the base and bring even one vote. As a member of the People Power Party and as the Dongjak District Party Chairperson, I am determined and ready to do my best."
Earlier, former lawmaker Na recently met with PPP presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol and was offered the position of co-chair of the campaign committee. However, she expressed her intention to yield the position for talent that can broaden the moderate base.
Na said, "The fact that Yoon's approval rating is still lower than the regime change support rate shows us the direction we must take," adding, "Now, for next year's presidential election, we must focus on expanding the base that unites all hopes for regime change."
Kim Tae-ho, who ran in the PPP presidential primary, also addressed senior party members on Facebook that day, saying, "I am worried it might already appear as if we are fighting over positions," and emphasized, "It is time for senior members to clear the way. The presidential campaign committee should not become spoils divided among primary election supporters."
He added, "For moderate expansion, new figures must step forward to show change and innovation. I hope the campaign committee is entrusted to new people, and senior members take on the role of cultivating voter support in their respective regions with a spirit of serving in white armor."
