MBC Idol Variety Show 'Yasaengdol' Multiple COVID-19 Cases Confirmed... Broadcasting Industry on Alert
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] A total of seven COVID-19 (novel coronavirus infection) cases have been confirmed among participants in MBC's idol audition program.
On the 22nd, MBC's Extreme Debut Wild Idol (hereafter 'Wild Idol') announced, "A contestant tested positive for COVID-19 on November 21," adding, "The contestant was asymptomatic during the studio recording on the 18th, but developed symptoms afterward and tested positive through a PCR test."
MBC stated, "Following PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests conducted on all participants and production staff, five contestants and two production members tested positive," and apologized, saying, "We conducted regular PCR tests, disinfection, self-test kits, and temperature checks before recordings in accordance with quarantine authorities' guidelines. Nevertheless, we sincerely apologize for the occurrence of confirmed cases."
They continued, "We will pay even closer attention to the health of the contestants and adhere strictly to the COVID-19 prevention guidelines set by the quarantine authorities."
First aired on September 17, 'Wild Idol' is an idol survival audition program where a total of 44 applicants compete in the wild to be selected as part of the 14-member debut group.
