Yeonggwang-gun Successfully Concludes the 46th Jeollanam-do Student Comprehensive Sports Competition
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 22nd that the '46th Jeollanam-do Student Comprehensive Sports Competition (Athletics)' was successfully concluded at the Yeonggwang Sportium General Stadium from the 19th to the 20th.
Hosted by the Jeollanam-do Office of Education and organized by the Jeollanam-do and Yeonggwang-gun Athletics Federation, this competition saw about 400 athletes and officials from 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam visit the county to compete for the top spot in each event.
The competition was held with the purpose of revitalizing school sports and discovering new athletes, aiming to foster students' hometown love and school spirit and enhance their pride. Elementary and middle schools competed in city and county team matches, while high schools competed in school team matches.
Results from local schools included: 'Yeonggwang Elementary' - Jo Gyusang placed 3rd in the 3,000m, Hong Jiwan 2nd in discus, 3rd in the 400m relay (Seyun, Taemin, Jiwan, Jaehyuk), and 3rd in the 1600m relay (Seyun, Taemin, Gyusang, Jaehyuk).
'Haeryong Middle School' - Kim Namho took 1st in the 3000m and 3rd in the 1500m, Yu Jihoon 1st in the 800m and 2nd in the 1500m, Seo Yuchan 2nd in the 3000m, Park Hyunseo 3rd in the 800m, Baek Jaehwan 2nd in the 800m, 2nd in the 400m relay (Yuchan, Jihoon, Namho, Hyunseo), and 2nd in the 1600m relay (Yuchan, Namho, Hyunseo, Jihoon).
'Yeonggwang Technical High School' - Kim Seongwoo placed 1st in the 800m and 3rd in the 1500m, Jeon Eunjae 2nd in the 1500m and 2nd in the 5000m.
A county official stated, "Despite the contraction of school sports teams due to COVID-19, we hope that student athletes preparing for and competing in this competition will improve their skills and have an opportunity to grow into athletes representing our country."
Meanwhile, starting with this competition, the county plans to put full effort into hosting national and provincial level sports events in line with the phased return to normalcy following the COVID-19 situation, which had slowed down sports events.
