BAT Starts Eco-Friendly Solar Power Generation at Sacheon Plant
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] BAT announced on the 22nd that it has completed the installation of eco-friendly solar power facilities at its Sacheon plant in Gyeongnam and has officially started generating eco-friendly energy.
The BAT Sacheon plant installed solar panels on the entire rooftop of the factory building as part of its solar power generation project, which is one of the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) compliance goals in the environmental sector. In the future, the facility will expand to include the parking lot and other areas, operating solar power modules covering a total area of 16,000㎡.
The Sacheon plant expects a significant carbon reduction effect through the operation of the solar power generation facilities. The solar power facilities at the Sacheon plant can produce up to 1,435 kW of electricity annually, resulting in a reduction of 781 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This is equivalent to planting 55,784 pine trees or saving 1,930 drums of oil from thermal power plants.
BAT is committed to sustainable growth by joining the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) goals to halve global carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve 'net zero' by 2050. By participating in the UN-led global campaign 'Race to Zero,' BAT has clearly set its carbon reduction goals.
In line with this eco-friendly business strategy, BAT Sacheon plant is expanding its environmental investments, including the introduction of solar power generation facilities and recycling factory wastewater.
