President Moon: "We will strive to provide self-employed workers with the most substantial compensation possible"
2021 President's Dialogue with the People, Returning to Daily Life... "Doing Our Best to Ensure More Support for the Culture and Arts Industry"
[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Lee Ji-eun] On the 21st, President Moon Jae-in stated during the KBS live broadcast of ‘Dialogue with the President and the People, Towards Daily Life’ regarding support for self-employed individuals, "The government has allocated supplementary budgets several times to provide compensation for losses. I understand that from the perspective of the self-employed, it still feels insufficient. The government will strive to provide as much practical compensation as possible."
President Moon said, "Since the framework for loss compensation has been established, legal compensation will be implemented, and we are the first country to legally institutionalize loss compensation," adding, "I am aware of criticisms that the compensation amount is insufficient, but the government will work to provide more compensation related to excess tax revenue."
President Moon also stated, "There are many sectors excluded from the Loss Compensation Act, such as tourism, culture, and the arts. The government will do its best to provide more support in those areas as well."
President Moon explained, "I am also aware of opinions requesting that indoor sports facilities allow entry with proof of vaccination. Currently, based on expert opinions, indoor sports facilities are still not permitted, but there are two types of indoor sports facilities."
President Moon pledged, "There are facilities for intense dynamic exercise and others for static exercises like yoga, so the expert committee will discuss applying the vaccine pass differently to these types of facilities going forward."
President Moon said, "If confirmed cases increase in the future, the issue will be whether our medical system can handle the increased number of confirmed and critically ill patients," adding, "If hospital beds for their treatment are secured, the plan for recovery of daily life will continue as scheduled."

President Moon emphasized, "An increase in confirmed cases will not cause a halt. However, if the number of critically ill patients increases beyond what our system can handle, emergency measures or a temporary pause in the recovery of daily life will be unavoidable. The public must cooperate in this matter."
