The Dong-Eui University soccer team lost 1-2 in overtime in the final of the 2021 University Soccer U-League King of Kings Tournament held on the 20th, failing to claim the throne.
Dong-Eui University advanced to the final but was held back by Jeonju University, which had won second place twice this year: at the 57th Tongyeonggi Spring College Soccer Federation Tournament in March and the U-League King of Kings Tournament.
In the final, Dong-Eui University conceded the opening goal to Jeonju University in the 8th minute of the first half and launched a counterattack, scoring an equalizer with quick speed in the 20th minute of the first half.
The equalizing goal came when player Ahn Sang-jin made a long throw-in from the left, and player Kim Dae-han connected with a header in front of the opponent’s goal, shaking Jeonju University’s net.
Both teams ended regular time tied, but Dong-Eui University lost after conceding a penalty kick winning goal to Jeonju University in the first half of overtime.
In the 2021 U-League, Dong-Eui University ranked first in Region 11 and advanced to the King of Kings Tournament, where they won 3-0 against Halla University in the round of 32, 1-0 against Incheon University in the round of 16, 3-1 against Gimcheon University in the quarterfinals, and 4-0 against Chosun University in the semifinals, advancing to the final with unstoppable momentum.
Jang Cheol-min, head coach of the Dong-Eui University soccer team, said, “This year was our best season, and we will carry this momentum into next year to challenge for the championship again.”
