[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Duty Free announced on the 21st that on the 19th, it signed a digital marketing promotion agreement with Alipay, Asia's No.1 electronic payment service, becoming the first major domestic retailer to prepare for the 'post-COVID-19 (post-corona)' era.
The signing ceremony was attended by Yoo Shin-yeol, CEO of Shinsegae DF, and Jung Hyung-kwon, President of Alipay Korea, among others.
Alipay is a Chinese digital payment platform serving 1 billion users. Alipay connects users with merchants and partner financial institutions that provide comprehensive financial services and digital daily life services including transportation, delivery, entertainment, and healthcare.
Shinsegae Duty Free stated, "Through this agreement, we will increase brand awareness in China while providing a differentiated shopping experience by utilizing Alipay's digital marketing tools." They plan to explore new marketing approaches by leveraging Alipay's knowledge of the Chinese market and payment capabilities.
By branding popular K-brands housed in Shinsegae Duty Free on Alipay-affiliated platforms such as Taobao, Tmall, and Pinduoduo, they will also strive to attract new customers to Shinsegae Duty Free. Platforms will be established to allow customers from third countries to access as well.
