90 Citizens and Youth Groups Affected by Daejang-dong Development Hold 'Special Prosecutor Demand Candlelight Rally' Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] On the afternoon of the 20th, 90 Seongnam citizens who suffered damages from the Daejang-dong urban development project, along with youth and civic group members, will hold a candlelight rally urging a special investigation into Daejang-dong.
Six youth organizations, including Acting Free Citizens, announced that they will hold a rally in front of Seoul City Hall on the same day to condemn the prosecution's sluggish investigation and urge Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, to accept a special investigation.
About 90 participants, including Acting Free Citizens, Seongnam citizens affected by the Daejang-dong development project, and members of youth groups such as Youth Forum Sijak, Fairness and Common Sense, National Student Protection Alliance, and Tinet, will attend the rally. Participants will deliver 5-minute speeches to express their views and perform a candlelight performance shouting slogans demanding acceptance of the special investigation and condemning the prosecution.
Park So-young, the executive representative of Acting Free Citizens, said, "Although the Daejang-dong gate allegations are matters of national interest, the political circles are busy using them for political strife. Regardless of party lines, the suspicions must be resolved through a special investigation to establish a Korea where common sense and justice prevail."
Meanwhile, Acting Free Citizens has been holding weekly rallies since last month after holding a press conference in front of the National Assembly on the 7th, urging candidate Lee to accept the special investigation.
