Gwangju City Secures Emergency Supply of Urea Solution for 2 Months
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City will urgently secure and supply two months' worth of urea solution.
On the 18th, Gwangju City announced that to resolve the urea solution shortage early and alleviate difficulties faced by local freight trucks and construction machinery in the private sector, it will actively cooperate with local import companies to urgently import urea solution from Vietnam and supply it to gas stations.
The import company operates locally, and the supply volume is 7,000 to 8,000 tons, which is twice the average monthly usage in the Gwangju area.
The supply form will be small box packaging of 10ℓ or 20ℓ, and starting from midnight on the 29th, 1,000 tons will be supplied weekly according to the daily needs of each gas station.
It is expected to contribute to stabilizing the urea solution shortage situation to some extent until January next year.
The urea solution to be supplied by the import company is the Blue One product, approved by the Korea Petroleum Management Service as a vehicle catalyst-compatible product, with a urea content of 32.5% for vehicle use.
An official from the company said, “We could not just watch the local urea solution shortage situation, so with a sense of hometown affection, we sought ways to actively contribute to the region. As a result of actively persuading local contacts in Vietnam, whom we knew through the usual import-export process, we signed a contract and contacted Gwangju City. We hope this will help solve the urea solution shortage situation even a little.”
After receiving contact from the import company, Gwangju City confirmed the available supply volume, appropriate price, and whether local gas station officials wished to receive supply, then finally selected five gas stations for supply and decided to import the supply volume.
The list of supplied gas stations will be posted on the main pages of Gwangju City and autonomous district websites and can also be checked through the Freight Truck Transportation Association and the Korea Construction Machinery Association.
In the future, once the emergency supply to gas stations and the supplied gas stations are disclosed, if other local gas stations wish to receive supply, they can be added after consultation with the import company.
Drivers of freight trucks and construction machinery can receive supply at the five available gas stations according to the limited quantity (30ℓ per vehicle) under the Ministry of Environment’s emergency supply adjustment order.
Meanwhile, on the 11th, Gwangju City held an emergency situation inspection and countermeasure meeting chaired by Mayor Lee Yong-seop to share government measures and discuss situation checks and future measures by city departments and related organizations.
To secure as much shortage volume as possible in the public and private sectors, active proposals are being made to related ministries, and a ‘Emergency Countermeasure TF’ chaired by the Deputy Mayor has been formed and is operating to prepare rapid response plans.
Mayor Lee said, “We expect that the two months’ worth secured by the local import company this time will help to resolve and stabilize the current urea solution shortage situation early. We will continue to strive to import and supply additional shortage volumes to minimize inconvenience to citizens.”
