Gwangju Police Make Every Effort to Prevent Deviant Behavior After CSAT
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Police announced on the 18th that they will initiate guidance activities, anticipating a significant increase in 'deviant behavior' after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).
Gwangju Police Agency plans to promote juvenile delinquency prevention and guidance/protection activities centered on school police officers at each police station until the 26th.
The main contents include ▲education on prohibition of contact with harmful environments for youth and fraudulent use of identification cards ▲intensive inspection and crackdown on harmful environments for youth in cooperation with local governments and youth organizations.
First, special training for school police officers will be conducted on the harms of drinking and smoking, criminal penalties for forgery and misuse of identification cards, and unauthorized use of others’ IDs, along with career and counseling activities.
For business owners and employees of convenience stores, karaoke rooms, and entertainment bars where violations of the Youth Protection Act are frequent, promotional leaflets will be distributed and guidance provided to actively check visitors’ identification. Joint patrols and street campaigns will also be conducted focusing on downtown areas and high-risk zones where youth deviant behavior is expected.
In particular, during this period, out-of-school youth and other at-risk youth identified will be selected as interviewees by school police officers, who will conduct follow-up management and monitoring to prevent delinquency. Customized protection and support activities will also be promoted in connection with specialized institutions such as the Out-of-School Youth Support Center.
A Gwangju Police Agency official stated, "Active interest from not only the police but the entire local community is necessary. Even after the promotion period, we will strengthen youth guidance and protection activities by preventing deviant behaviors such as drinking and smoking among some youth in advance and continuing inspections and crackdowns on harmful environments."
