According to the county on the 17th, despite concerns about farming conditions due to continuous high water temperatures and abnormal weather phenomena this year, most farms, except for some, showed better yields than last year.
However, due to the prolonged social distancing caused by COVID-19 leading to a slump in king prawn consumption, prices have continued to decline since Chuseok (late September), with prices at the end of October dropping to a low of 10,000 to 11,000 KRW per kilogram (based on 30 pieces), resulting in significantly lower prices. While production volume increased by about 400 tons compared to last year, production value decreased by 1.2 billion KRW.
Shrimp farming in Sinan-gun involves 284 households (363 locations, 936 hectares) and accounted for 52% of the nationwide farmed shrimp production (81% of Jeollanam-do) as of last year, making it the second highest production among Sinan-gun's aquaculture species.
Since the 7th local government administration, Sinan-gun has been making every effort to stabilize shrimp farming management by promoting various policies such as training specialized shrimp farming personnel, joint purchasing of feed and equipment, and providing various supports to reduce costs and increase productivity for aquaculture households.
