Ministry of Justice: "72.2% of Foreigners Staying in Korea Vaccinated... Close to National Vaccination Rate"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Ministry of Justice announced on the 16th that the COVID-19 vaccination completion rate among foreign residents in South Korea was recorded at 72.2%.
According to the Ministry of Justice, as of August 28 this year, the vaccination completion rate for legally residing foreigners was 32.3%, while that for illegally residing foreigners was 5.7%. However, as of the same date, the vaccination completion rates were 71.7% and 74.6%, respectively, showing figures close to the national vaccination rate of 78.3%. The proportion of foreign confirmed cases among domestic COVID-19 cases also significantly decreased from 21.7% as of the 13th of last month to 6.2% as of this date.
The Ministry of Justice has been implementing measures to increase vaccination rates among foreigners, including an exemption system that waives the obligation to notify immigration authorities when illegally residing foreigners undergo COVID-19 testing or vaccination, guidance activities in areas densely populated by foreigners, and incentives for voluntarily departing illegally residing foreigners after vaccination.
