Xi Jinping: "Taiwan is Part of China... Firm Action if Red Line is Crossed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Chinese President Xi Jinping warned on the 16th, "China will take resolute measures if Taiwan independence and separatist forces cross the red line."
According to China's state-run CCTV, President Xi said during his first virtual summit with U.S. President Joe Biden that day, "China will be patient and do its best to achieve the vision of peaceful reunification."
He emphasized, "The complete reunification of China is the common aspiration of all Chinese descendants," and "Taiwan is a part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing China."
President Biden stated at the meeting that the United States does not support Taiwan independence. He said, "The United States has consistently implemented the 'One China' policy over the long term," and "hopes to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region."
