Government to Gradually Resume International Flights at Regional Airports... Corporation Strengthens Promotion and Incentives
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Korea Airports Corporation is set to fully resume international routes at regional airports in line with the 'gradual recovery of daily life.'
Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 15th that it has established a comprehensive plan for operating international flights at seven regional airports, which will gradually resume starting with the expansion of international flights at Gimhae International Airport.
This comprehensive plan includes phased response measures to ensure the smooth resumption of immigration facilities at regional airports, which had been suspended or operated with restrictions for a long period, in accordance with the government's international flight resumption roadmap, and to facilitate early stabilization of demand at regional airports. Earlier, the government announced plans to gradually resume international flights at regional airports from this month for vaccinated individuals and those holding quarantine exemption certificates, after a suspension lasting one year and seven months.
In the initial phase of resuming international flights, Korea Airports Corporation will implement a 'Restart Incentive' to support the recovery of trust in safe air travel and assist the airline and travel industries in attracting customers. The corporation also plans to strengthen route promotion through route reopening events at each airport, events, and the use of the corporation’s website and social networking services (SNS).
Additionally, in consultation with quarantine agencies and local governments, the corporation will reorganize airport quarantine and transportation systems, enhance promotion of domestic quarantine information and airport quarantine activities targeting overseas airlines and passengers, and actively pursue early recovery of demand at regional airports in cooperation with overseas airports and the duty-free industry during the initial phase of route resumption.
Furthermore, from the first half of next year, when air travel demand is expected to increase significantly, Korea Airports Corporation plans to expand various passenger promotion activities such as airline collaboration live commerce and portal site partnership airline ticket discount events. To boost inbound demand, it will also implement government collaborative projects linking airlines and the tourism industry, fam tours, airline ticket discounts in cooperation with overseas OTAs, and early bird promotions.
