22 New Confirmed Cases Over the Weekend, Surge in Cases Related to Nursing Hospitals
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] A cluster infection of COVID-19 occurred at a nursing hospital in Bongsan-dong, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, resulting in 22 additional confirmed cases over the weekend.
According to Yeosu City on the 15th, "A cluster infection occurred at a nursing hospital in Bongsan-dong on the 13th, leading to 22 confirmed COVID-19 cases over the weekend."
This is the first time in 40 days since the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Yeosu reached double digits last month, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the region to 695.
The infection was identified through proactive testing, and the exact route of transmission is currently under investigation.
In nursing hospitals, the extensive movement of workers makes them vulnerable to the spread of infection, and breakthrough infections mainly among the elderly are increasing, raising concerns among health authorities.
