Yeni Erpenbeck Wins Lee Ho-cheol Unification Literature Award Main Prize
The Special Award goes to 'Yeongwonhan Yusan' Sim Yoon-kyung
German author Jenny Erpenbeck has been selected as the main prize winner of the Lee Ho-cheol Unification Road Literary Award. The Lee Ho-cheol Unification Road Literary Award was established in 2017 by Eunpyeong-gu to honor the literary activities and unification aspirations of writer Lee Ho-cheol (1932?2016), who worked in Eunpyeong-gu for 50 years. On the 15th, Eunpyeong-gu announced Erpenbeck's selection, stating, "Her work 'When All Evenings Fall' introduced to many countries around the world contains serious interest and affection for difficult narratives such as customs and laws, violence, and war," and explained that "it aligns with the values pursued by the Lee Ho-cheol Literary Award." The special prize goes to writer Shim Yoon-kyung for 'Eternal Legacy,' recognized for deeply reflecting on distorted colonial modernity. The award ceremony will be held on the 25th at Jingwansa Han Culture Experience Center.
