[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee directed the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner to implement "customized policing activities in accordance with the phased transition to daily recovery," the committee announced on the 15th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee is a collegial administrative body that directs and supervises the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner regarding autonomous police affairs. In line with the government's policy on the phased transition to daily recovery and ahead of the year-end and New Year holidays, the committee held the 20th extraordinary meeting, where it deliberated and resolved to order the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner to strengthen customized crackdowns and preventive activities against various crimes.
The main points of the resolution include ▲ prevention of crimes targeting socially vulnerable women ▲ crackdowns on entertainment establishments ▲ safety enhancement in areas such as Hangang Park ▲ preparation for an increase in tourists ▲ crackdown on drunk driving during the year-end and New Year period.
Following the resolution of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to strengthen crime prevention patrols in residential safety zones such as areas densely populated by single-person households, enhance prevention and crackdown activities against crimes targeting women such as stalking and dating violence, and form joint crackdown teams with local governments and related agencies to continuously crack down on unauthorized (variant) operations and violations of operating hour restrictions at entertainment establishments, while reinforcing preventive activities against crimes targeting women.
Additionally, to prevent crimes and accidents caused by drinking in major parks such as Hangang Park, flexible patrols will be conducted. In preparation for the increase in tourism demand, activities to preemptively eradicate illegal tourism acts and create a safe tourism environment will be carried out. During the year-end and New Year period, focused crackdowns on drunk driving will be conducted in high-risk areas such as entertainment districts and restaurant areas.
