Police to Close Investigation of 'Saengsubyung Incident'...Conclude Employee Acted Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The police have concluded that the so-called 'bottled water incident' that occurred at a company in Seocho-gu, Seoul, was a solo crime committed by an employee of the company, and plan to wrap up the investigation soon.
On the 14th, according to the police, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul decided to issue a 'no prosecution' disposition regarding the murder and attempted murder charges related to Kang, a man in his 30s who died by suicide.
On the 18th of last month, two employees at the company drank water from bottled water placed on office desks and lost consciousness, collapsing. One of them fell into a critical condition and eventually died.
Kang, a colleague of the victims, was found dead at his home the day after the incident after ingesting poison. An autopsy by the National Forensic Service revealed that the same type of poison found in the blood of the victims was detected in Kang's body.
The police secured internet records showing that Kang purchased the poison used in the crime and found the poison container at his home. However, no suicide note was found, making it difficult to determine the motive.
The police obtained statements from company officials indicating that "Kang may have been dissatisfied after hearing about a possible transfer to a regional position," and "he seemed to be frustrated due to frequent work criticisms." Additionally, a memo was found at Kang's office desk containing phrases such as "I'm annoyed" and "I should get rid of them," which suggested a possible motive.

The police continued the investigation to verify the presence of accomplices, but based on the evidence so far, they judged that continuing the investigation would be unproductive. Therefore, they concluded that the incident was a solo crime committed by Kang and decided to dismiss the case with a 'no prosecution' disposition.
