[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] POSCO announced on the 9th that it has been selected as the world's most competitive steel company. The global steel industry analysis organization WSD (World Steel Dynamics) evaluates technology, financial status, and other factors to rank companies, and POSCO has been ranked first for 12 consecutive years.
The company received perfect scores for two consecutive years in seven categories including high value-added products, processing costs, technological innovation, human resources capabilities, new growth businesses, investment environment, and country risk factors. It also received a perfect score in financial soundness, such as securing funds in advance for future growth engines and reducing debt ratio, achieving an overall score of 8.54 out of 10, ranking first overall.
Established in 1999, WSD annually evaluates 35 major steel companies worldwide across 23 categories and publishes a comprehensive competitiveness ranking. This year, WSD selected POSCO as number one, highly appreciating its performance recovery, transformation into an eco-friendly materials company, and leadership in promoting carbon neutrality in the global steel industry, according to the company. In the third quarter, POSCO raised sales and operating profit to the highest levels since its establishment, while expanding eco-friendly businesses in various fields including steel products, secondary battery materials, and hydrogen.
