Jangseong-gun Designates 'No Smoking Zone' in Love House
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Dooseok) announced on the 8th that the elderly living alone residential facility ‘Sarang-ui Jip’ has been designated as Jangseong’s first non-smoking zone in a multi-unit housing complex.
According to Article 9, Paragraph 5 of the National Health Promotion Act, if more than half of the heads of households in a multi-unit housing complex agree to the application, hallways, staircases, elevators, and some or all of the underground parking lots of the complex can be designated as non-smoking areas.
Among the total 32 households residing in Sarang-ui Jip, 23 households supported the designation of the non-smoking apartment.
Once designated as a non-smoking zone, non-smoking area signs will be installed at the entrances of the multi-unit housing complex, followed by a three-month period of promotion and guidance.
In the case of Sarang-ui Jip, smoking is prohibited in the staircases, hallways, and elevators. After the guidance period, a fine of 50,000 KRW will be imposed for smoking violations.
A county official stated, “We plan to continue providing smoking cessation counseling, smoking cessation clinics, and support for smoking cessation aids targeting Sarang-ui Jip,” and added, “We ask for your cooperation in designating additional non-smoking zones so that everyone can live a healthy life together.”
