Ruling Party: "To Add Disaster Relief Funds to Next Year's Budget, Decision Must Be Made Within This Week"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Juyoun] Park Wanju, Chairman of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 8th that a decision and consultation must be made within this week to add disaster relief funds to next year's budget proposal.
On the same day, at a press briefing held at the National Assembly, Chairman Park said regarding the payment of disaster relief funds, "If we want to implement (the disaster relief funds) within next year, it is timely to make a decision and hold consultations within this week, before December 2."
In an interview on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jongbae's Focus' that morning, Chairman Park revealed, "If the additional tax revenue is roughly 10 to 15 trillion won, the amount payable to the entire population would be about 200,000 to 250,000 won." He added, "If an agreement is reached, we can consider that level," and regarding timing and method, he said, "A third supplementary budget within this year is tight, so we can consider options such as the main budget or whether it is before or after the presidential election."
At the briefing that day, Chairman Park also explained, "We are keeping all options open," and "We have not received exact information from the fiscal authorities. Whether to provide the funds before or after the presidential election, whether to do it within this year or through a third supplementary budget, all options are being reviewed."

He added, "The government views this negatively, and since it involves the budget, discussions with the opposition party are necessary," and "Budget deliberations are conducted in the National Assembly, so a few high-level matters will be reviewed with the opposition party, and the final decision will be made by the party leadership." He further noted, "In the National Assembly, there are discussion channels whether it is a supplementary budget or the main budget."
