After Confirming Ruling and Opposition Candidates, First Poll Shows Yoon Seok-yeol Leading Lee Jae-myung by 15% in Suitability
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] A public opinion poll conducted after the presidential candidates from both ruling and opposition parties were finalized showed on the 7th that Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, leads Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, by a 15 percentage point margin.
According to a survey conducted by polling firm PNR on behalf of New Daily and Sisa Gyeongnam from the 5th to 6th, targeting 1,005 people nationwide aged 18 and over, Yoon received 45.8% support, surpassing Lee, who recorded 30.3%, beyond the margin of error.
Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party followed with 4.7%, Shim Sang-jung of the Justice Party with 3.2%, and former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon with 0.9%.
The survey was conducted starting from 4 p.m. on the 5th, immediately after Yoon was officially selected as the People Power Party’s presidential candidate.
The survey method included 85% mobile phone and 15% landline calls, with some landline responses reflected. By age group, Yoon led Lee in all age groups except those in their 40s.
Even among people in their 20s, considered a 'vulnerable point' for both candidates, Yoon led with 33.6% compared to Lee’s 23.9%.
Regarding the necessity of unifying presidential candidates, 32.0% of Democratic Party supporters responded that it is 'necessary,' while 46.4% said it is 'not necessary.'
In contrast, among People Power Party supporters, 67.1% said it is 'necessary,' and only 17.6% responded 'not necessary.' Among People’s Party supporters, those who said 'necessary' (72.2%) outnumbered those who said 'not necessary' (16.6%).
