Incheon City Council Holds Briefing on Globalization of Kimchi and Development of Incheon Airport Economic Zone
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Metropolitan Council held a meeting to discuss the role and cooperation measures for the globalization of kimchi from Incheon.
The Special Committee on the Development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone of the City Council held a briefing session on the 5th at the special committee meeting room, attended by Chairman Jo Gwang-hwi, city council members Park Seong-min, Lee Byeong-rae, Kim Guk-hwan, Jo Jeong-eun, Head of Strategic Planning at the World Kimchi Research Institute, and Incheon city officials, to explore the globalization of kimchi and the development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone.
At the briefing, Jo Jeong-eun, Head of Strategic Planning at the World Kimchi Research Institute, a government-funded research institution, presented strategies and directions under the theme "Securing the Global Competitiveness of Korean Kimchi" to establish kimchi, Korea's representative food, as a global food product.
Jo emphasized, "It is necessary to provide policy support so that kimchi can spread worldwide by utilizing infrastructure such as the airport in Incheon, the gateway city of the Republic of Korea."
Chairman Jo Gwang-hwi said, "Through this briefing, we discussed the globalization of kimchi and the development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone together. Going forward, we will cooperate with various organizations including the city executive branch and private groups to present concrete promotional measures to increase global understanding of kimchi."

The Special Committee on the Development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone of the Incheon Metropolitan Council was established and operates since September last year with the purpose of creating the Incheon Airport Economic Zone centered on Incheon International Airport and developing the local economy, focusing on core industries of Korea such as advanced aviation industry, aircraft maintenance (MRO), air logistics, and future aviation industry.
