"Targeting Unmanned Convenience Stores to Gamble," 30s Suspect Arrested and Sent to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 30s who stole goods worth approximately 7.7 million won from unmanned convenience stores across the Seoul metropolitan area has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 5th that they had arrested and sent Mr. A, a man in his 30s, to prosecution on charges of theft under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of visiting only unmanned convenience stores in the Seoul metropolitan area from the end of September to the end of last month, stealing goods worth about 7.7 million won in a total of 28 incidents.
Police began investigating after a report from the owner of an unmanned convenience store in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 13th of last month, and arrested Mr. A in Incheon on the 27th, two weeks later.
At the time, Mr. A was found in possession of stolen cash and a screwdriver used in the crimes.

Mr. A told the police, "I committed the crimes to fund online gambling and cover living expenses." It was also found that Mr. A had no fixed residence or occupation.
