Pent-up dining-out demand 'explodes'... "Baemin, Yogiyo, and other 'delivery industry' face tense competition"
Baemin Records 4.61 Million DAU on the 1st... Lowest in 3 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] Since the transition to 'With Corona' quarantine policies on the 1st, a tense atmosphere has spread across the delivery industry, which had relatively little impact despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the data analysis platform Mobile Index on the 4th, the daily active users (DAU) of delivery apps decreased following the start of the phased daily recovery on November 1st.
In particular, the number of users of 'Baedal Minjok,' the leading delivery service, has noticeably declined. On November 1st, the DAU was 4.61 million, marking the lowest point in the past three months from August to the 1st. This represents about a 10% decrease compared to the previous Monday, October 25th (5.06 million).
Over the past three months, the Monday DAU for Baedal Minjok ranged between 5 to 6 million but dropped to the 4 million range with the start of the phased daily recovery.
Yogiyo and Coupang Eats showed similar trends. Yogiyo's DAU on November 1st was 1.1 million, down more than 10% from 1.27 million on the previous Monday, October 25th. Coupang Eats decreased slightly from 690,000 to 680,000 during the same period.
This appears to be the result of pent-up dining-out demand exploding due to the phased daily recovery.
Meanwhile, the delivery industry is strengthening marketing efforts to prevent user attrition. Baedal Minjok is running the 'Baemin 1 Day' promotion from the 1st to the 14th. On the 1st, they distributed 10,000 KRW discount coupons on a first-come, first-served basis, and for the remaining two weeks, they plan to offer category and brand discounts as well as a 10,000 KRW coupon hunt event.
