According to the Northern Fire Headquarters, the '119 multi-media reporting system' is a service that allows 119 reports through short message service (SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS), video calls, and other methods excluding voice calls.
In particular, foreigners and people with disabilities can report to 119 more easily. It also has the advantage of being highly valuable as an alternative reporting method when the number of calls surges during large-scale disasters such as heavy rain or typhoons.
If you press 119 on your mobile phone and select video call, you will be connected to the control room and can report the situation on-site via video.
Also, if you send a text message to 119, the report is received without a phone call, and photos and videos that help understand the situation can be attached.
For smartphones, if you download the '119 Report' app and use the reporting service, GPS location information is sent to the control room, allowing the exact location of the reporter to be confirmed. It is expected to be very useful in remote areas such as mountains where location identification is difficult.
The 119 multi-media reporting service has been in operation in the Gyeonggi area since July 2013, and the Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters introduced it in January of this year.
